CAINE: I'M RETIRED UNLESS A GREAT SCRIPT COMES ALONG
Veteran actor MICHAEL CAINE could have made his last big screen appearance.
Speaking to Empire magazine, the star revealed that he fears he might be "retired" by the movie business without having much choice in the matter.
He explained that while he would jump at the chance of starring in another picture, he is yet to be asked to do anything that interests him.
"I don't have another script I want to do, but if I don't get one I'll be retired. Because I always say, 'the movie business retires you, you don't retire from the movie business'," Caine said.
However, while the star threw around words like "unemployed" and "retired" to describe his current work situation, he also revealed that he could yet receive an offer too good to refuse and subsequently find himself back in front of the camera.
"It's nothing to do with money, it's the script - like HARRY BROWN - they were both pictures I couldn't turn down," he stated.
Harry Brown, the last film that Caine worked on, features the actor as the eponymous character who embarks upon a revenge mission after one of his friends is killed.
The role seems to promise more action than his other recent project, IS ANYBODY THERE?, which premiered in London this week.
In the film, which also stars BILL MILLNER of SON OF RAMBOW fame, Caine plays a retired magician who is forced to live in a retirement home as he struggles to cope with dementia.
As well as Caine, a host of other stars populate the film, with old favourite such as LESLIE PHILLIPS and THELMA BARLOW putting in an appearance.
Recently, Caine revealed that he will leave the UK if the tax rate for top earners go up to 51 pence in the pound.
