BYRNE BLASTS BONO
Former TALKING HEADS frontman DAVID BYRNE has taken aim at Irish rockers U2 for spending so much money on their current world tour, accusing human rights campaigner BONO of hypocrisy over the lavish shows.
The singer/songwriter complains the band's ongoing 360 global trek has cost millions to stage - money which would have been better spent helping Bono's various charity campaigns.
Byrne also targets Bono's environmental concerns, insisting there is nothing planet-friendly about the hundreds of trucks needed to transport U2's massive set across the world.
In a post on his website, he writes, "Those stadium shows may possibly be the most extravagant and expensive (production-wise) ever: $40 million to build the stage and, having done the math, we estimate 200 semi trucks crisscrossing Europe for the duration.
"It could be professional envy speaking here, but it sure looks like, well, overkill, and just a wee bit out of balance given all the starving people in Africa and all."

U2, and Bono specifically do so much humanatarian work, and he spends plenty of
his money and time on his fight for the extreme poor of the poor, being
Africa. A project that is very much a part of who he is. He also knows as
does the band that it is his fans that got them where they are today, and that
is why they are putting on such a spectacular show, where the stage cost
millions of $'s, and where it takes 200 trucks to load-in, and load-out the
stage, that they probabaly aren't making half as much as they made on the
Vertigo tour. U2 is doing it to say thank you to the fans. I think it is very
admirable what they are doing for their shows, to give the fans something that
has never been done before. One can't get a bigger THX than that, and U2 has
always put their fans first.

Maybe U2 has enough money to have their lavish world tour, and still are able
to cover all of Bono's campaigns. U2 is not a charity band and they work hard
at what they do, making music and touring ect.
Still, Bono is a humanitarian , who deeply believes in his campaigns, ideals
and causes. I admire his humanitarianism and the music Of U2.
