BUCKET LIST TOPS BOX OFFICE

Sentimental drama The Bucket List has jumped 22 places to become the biggest film at the North American box office.

Screen International said the Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman-starring film took $19.5 million (£9.9 million) over the weekend.

In the Warner Bros movie, Nicholson and Freeman play two-terminally ill men who decide to carry out all the things they want to do before they 'kick the bucket'.

The Bucket List, which opens in the UK on February 8th, was number one by virtue of the $500,000 (£255,000) more it made than First Sunday, a crime comedy starring Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan.

Juno held on to third place with $14 million (£7 million), meaning the comedy is close to surpassing Sideways as Searchlight's best-ever film in terms of box office takings.

Completing the top five was National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which dropped three places to four, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.

The only other new entry in the top ten was CGI animation The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything.
