BRYCE'S DAD WARNED ABOUT VON TRIER
BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD was "upset" when her director father RON HOWARD warned her against working with demanding film-maker LARS VON TRIER - because she insists he's "the sweetest little man". The 25-year-old actress was auditioning for a part in MANDERLAY, the second installment of the legendary Danish filmmaker's USA - LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES trilogy. But she comes from a strong theatrical background, and is used to performing tough, uncompromising work to difficult audiences, so working with Von Trier was a breeze. She says, "My dad said, 'Understand it might also be intense. Just be prepared for that.' "Then when I got there I was actually a little bit upset. Why is everyone so tough on Lars? He's, like, the sweetest little man! "When I was in college I did only experimental theatre, I was obsessed with it. "I'm part of (New York company) Theatre Mitu, and they only do bold, very provocative theatre. So Lars Von Trier was exactly what I wanted to do. He's a visionary."
