BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN PLAYS AT OWN TRIBUTE CONCERT
You know the audience is going to be receptive when you're playing at the end of a tribute concert organised in honour of yourself.
That's the situation Bruce Springsteen found himself in at the Carnegie Hall venue in New York last night.
He had sat through an evening of bands and solo performers at a fundraising concert organised by the Music For Youth. Among the cover versions of his back catalogue were 57 Channels by Odetta, Pete Yorn's Dancing In The Dark and Atlantic City's Hold Steady.
Then the Boss himself emerged to rapturous acclaim. Reports claimed the audience cheered non-stop for 30 minutes – clearly the warm-up acts had done their job.
Springsteen performed The Promised Land and then two versions of Rosalita (Come Out Tonight). For the Rosalita repeat, which ended the show, he called all the night's performers back on to the stage.
Over $100,000 (£50,879) was raised for the educational charity, putting the organisers in a happy mood. The Boss was probably happier still.
