BROWNE TURNED TO SINGING WHEN STARS FAILED TO PERFORM

JACKSON BROWNE stepped up to the microphone to sing because he hated the way other stars he was signed to write for sang his songs. The Doctor My Eyes hitmaker was signed as a songwriter for Elektra Records and admits he wasn't a great singer - but he had to take charge of studio sessions because he couldn't stand what others did to his tunes. He tells Mojo magazine, "I heard some people sing my songs that I thought didn't do it right, they just did it in a very dramatic way. "I thought, `This is terrible'. I preferred the low-intensity, thrown-away tone of my singing." Browne refuses to name the singers who failed to perform his songs properly.
