MELANIE BROWN's sister has blamed the star's husband for driving the family apart - insisting the singer hasn't spoken to her mother in five months.
The former Spice Girls star, who lives in Los Angeles, wed Stephen Belafonte in 2007 and has gradually lost contact with her loved ones in her native U.K.
And Brown's actress sister, Danielle, admits she is desperate for her sibling to get in touch.
She tells British tabloid News of the World, "Mel hasn't spoken to her own mother in months. She has a husband now so she doesn't find the time. He doesn't help. To be honest, I don't think he's a very nice person."
Brown's mother, Andrea, is said to be devastated that she hasn't been able to see her grandchildren - ten year old Phoenix Chi from her first marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar, and year-old Angel Iris from a brief romance with Dr Doolittle star Eddie Murphy.
