BROWN PRAISES RADIOHEAD'S ALBUM DECISION

British singer IAN BROWN has praised RADIOHEAD and THE CHARLATANS for their attempts to revolutionise the music industry. Radiohead are following a unique selling strategy for seventh album In Rainbows, allowing fans to choose how much they pay to download the LP, while fellow English rockers The Charlatans announced their decision to give away their new album as a free download on the website of U.K. radio station Xfm earlier this month (Oct07). And the former Stone Roses frontman insists the bands' decisions to do things differently may spell the end for traditional record labels. Speaking at the Q Awards in London on Monday (08Oct07), he says, "Anything that can break the music industry up I'm supporting it. It's a brilliant idea. "I've heard about bands putting out free albums - they're putting out an album for free and the idea off it is that they're going to sell concert tickets. "Anything that's going to break the game up like that. Anything that's going back to the way it was in '77 - independent. It's coming back again. "Anything that's going back in that way I'm supporting."
