BROOKS TO PLAY BENEFIT CONCERT FOR WILDFIRES' VICTIMS
Country superstar GARTH BROOKS will perform a benefit gig in January (08) to raise funds for the victims of the recent California wildfires. Brooks will take the stage at Los Angeles' Staples Center on 26 January for the concert, which will also raise money for the future of firefighting in the region. Brooks, who recently came out of retirement to play his first gigs since the late 1990s, responded to a request from local officials to play the benefit. He says, "I'm flattered they've asked, and I'm honoured to accept. This is going to take a team effort like nothing I have ever been a part of before." Fires burned at numerous locations throughout southern California last month (Oct07), resulting in the evacuation of 500,000 people.
