BRITS WINNERS FALL SHY OF UK NUMBER ONE

Brit Award winners AMY WINEHOUSE and TAKE THAT failed to convert Wednesday's (14FEB07) successes to chart domination after pop sensation MIKA held on to his grip of the UK singles and album chart. The Lebanon-born singer's track GRACE KELLY held off stiff competition from KAISER CHIEFS' RUBY, AKON's I WANNA LOVE YOU, JUST JACK's STARZ IN THEIR EYES and FALL OUT BOY's THIS AIN'T A SCENE - IT'S AN ARMS RACE, which rounded out the top five singles. But the biggest surprise was that Mika's debut record LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION spent a second week at the top of the album chart despite the hype surrounding Brit Awards performers Winehouse, SNOW PATROL and Take That last week. Winehouse, who was named Best British Female Solo Artist at the ceremony in London, only managed second spot with BACK TO BLACK, while Snow Patrol's EYES OPEN clinched third. Reformed boy band Take That moved from 16 to five in the record race after picking up British Single Of The Year at the Brits for PATIENCE. The song went back up to 10 in the charts while new single SHINE climbed to 11.
