BRITNEY DIDN'T HARM "LONDON"

An animal welfare group has announced that it is ending its probe into Britney Spears' alleged mistreatment of her dog, London

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Los Angeles had sent representatives to the star's house to ask about the Yorkshire terrier's health, after receiving reports that the dog's leg was broken.

The local branch of the society said it had ended its inquiries upon receiving a written statement from a veterinarian, which stated that the singer's dog had received medical attention for a leg injury.

Speaking to US magazine, the president of the society, Madeline Bernstein, said: "It was a very slight fracture. The dog didn’t need a real cast or surgery. There was just a splint put on the dog."

Ms Bernstein added that the Baby One More Time star was not present when the accident took place.

"The dog got under someone’s foot in the walk-in closet…it’s not that unusual for people to step on their dogs by accident or trip over them. Things like this can happen," she said.

Spears, 25, is currently involved in legal proceedings over the custody of her children. Her ex-husband Kevin Federline has subpoenaed the singer's friends, as well as staff at her rehabilitation centre, to testify in the case.
