Britney Spears - Britney Charged With Driving Offences

Pop star Britney Spears has been charged over a parking accident in August when she bumped into a car while apparently driving without a valid licence.

The Baby One More Time star then left the private parking lot where the accident took place.

The singer has been charged with misdemeanour hit-and-run and driving without a valid California driver's licence. She could face up to six months in jail and be forced to pay a $1,000 (£500) fine if convicted.

The incident was caught on videotape and the owner of the damaged car filed an accident report at a local police station on August 9th. The singer will not have to appear in court as these are misdemeanour charges.

The troubled pop princess, whose personal life is being chronicled by the tabloids, is also involved in a custody battle for her two children with ex-husband Kevin Federline.

She was recently told by a judge that she was a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of alcohol and controlled substances and was ordered to appear for random drug tests twice a week.

The singer has also been directed to enrol in one-to-one counselling sessions on childcare issues and to meet with a parenting coach every week who will assess her progress.

The star's manager and lawyer recently ended their association with her.

Spears, whose latest album will be released in November, has also been universally ridiculed for her performance at the recent MTV video music awards.
