BRITNEY CASE A MISTRIAL
BRITNEY SPEARS' trial for driving without a licence has been scrapped, after a Van Nuys, California jury failed to reach a unanimous decision.
After more than two days of deliberating, jurors returned to court on Tuesday (21Oct08) to reveal they were deadlocked, with two members voting guilty, and ten not guilty - forcing the judge to declare a mistrial.
Prosecutors now have to decide whether to ask for a re-trial.
The charges stem from Spears' arrest last year (07) for driving without a valid California state licence. If convicted, Spears faces a maximum six months in jail and a $1,000 (GBP540) fine.
She has already rejected a plea deal that would have saved the case from going to trial - because it would have left her with a criminal record.
