BRIDGES DEFENDS HEROIN SCENE

JEFF BRIDGES has defended a shocking scene in new TERRY GILLIAM movie TIDELAND in which his on-screen daughter prepares heroin for his drug addict character to take. The AIRPLANE! star insists audiences need to be confronted with controversy, in order to remind them of the other side of real life. And he is quick to reassure fans his 10-year-old co-star JODELLE FERLAND is mature enough to deal with the uncomfortable scene. He says, "I'd imagine it will be met with some shock. "But I think it's nice to have some water thrown over you once in a while. "You find instances like that in real life - it's not stretching things too far. "When you act with a kid, especially one with her talent and experience, they're usually able to divide what was real and what was make-believe."
