BRAND SCOOPS COMEDY AWARD DESPITE RECENT SCANDAL
Controversial British comedian RUSSELL BRAND has scooped the best live stand-up gong at the British Comedy Awards - and dedicated it to his under-fire pal JONATHAN ROSS.
Funnyman Brand quit his BBC Radio 2 show in disgrace after he and fellow presenter Ross left sleazy messages on Fawlty Towers legend Andrew Sachs' voicemail in October (08).
The pair gloated on air that Brand had slept with Sachs' granddaughter Georgina Baillie, prompting a string of complaints from outraged listeners.
Ross received a three-month suspension from the BBC over the incident and had to step down from his duties presenting the British Comedy Awards.
And when Brand accepted his award by video link-up from Los Angeles on Saturday (06Dec08), he couldn't resist a nod to his friend.
Accompanied by his Bedtime Stories co-star, actor Adam Sandler, Brand said: "I would like to dedicate this award to Jonathan Ross. There are no comedy awards without Jonathan Ross, he is the king-maker."
