PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - BORAT AND DEPP PLUNDER MTV AWARDS

BORAT AND DEPP PLUNDER MTV AWARDS

Pirates of the Caribbean stole the show at the MTV Movie Awards last night, taking home the two top gongs.

The third installment of the swashbuckling franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, scooped the best movie prize and best performance for Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack Sparrow.

But Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan also fared well, winning the award for best comedic performance.

Picking up his award for the Borat movie, Cohen took a tongue-in-cheek swipe at the apparently growing Hollywood trend of going into rehabilitation.

"Unfortunately, Borat can't be here tonight," he said. "He's been feeling the pressures of fame and had to check himself into rehab."

Cohen was also hailed as the joint-best kisser of the year, scooping the award for best kiss for the smacker he planted on Will Ferrell in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

The comedy pair beat off competition from Cameron Diaz and Jude Law's kiss in the Holiday and Mark Wahlberg and Elizabeth Banks in Invincible among other steamy moments.

Of the other awards handed out Jack Nicholson was named best villain for his performance of godfather Costello in The Departed.

Mike Myers won the MTV Generation award and Transformers was tipped as the best movie that hasn't been released yet.
