BONO'S NEWSPAPER ODE TO SINATRA

Rocker-turned-journalist BONO has dedicated his new U.S. newspaper column to his hero and mentor FRANK SINATRA.
The U2 frontman has joined forces with the New York Times to provide occasional opinion pieces for the publication.
His first article, published this weekend (9Jan09), included an ode to Sinatra, who he met back in 1993 - after Bono covered the crooner's classic, I've Got You Under My Skin.
The singer reveals Sinatra didn't approve of his earring, but they bonded over a love of Jazz legend Miles Davis, and Sinatra gave him a painting he had created himself - that still hangs in Bono's Ireland home.
Hailing Sinatra's complex singing style, he writes, "I was lucky to duet with a man who understood duality, who had the talent to hear two opposing ideas in a single song, and the wisdom to know which side to reveal at which moment."
