BLANCHETT BATTLES CARBON EMISSIONS

Australian actress CATE BLANCHETT has demanded the world's business leaders drastically cut their carbon emissions in a bid to save her homeland from more devastating bush fires.
The Oscar-winning star took to the stage at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen on Monday (25May09) to urge global power players to invest in eco-friendly schemes as soon as possible.
And the star referenced the massive blaze which ripped through the southern Australian state of Victoria earlier this year (09) as an example of why action must be taken.
She told the conference, "Political failure at Copenhagen in December is quite simply unacceptable and this powerful room must play a major role in preventing this failure.
"Australia's best climate scientists have been warning us that we'll face many more catastrophic fire days in south-east Australia unless the world acts to dramatically cut greenhouse pollution."
