BLAINE SHACKLED ABOVE TIMES SQUARE

DAVID BLAINE is set to take on one of his most terrifying challenges yet later this month (24NOV06) when he attempts to escape from shackles while dangling above Times Square. The New York stunt will see the endurance artist hang four stories above the famous landmark in aid of The Salvation Army. If he completes the challenge 100 underprivileged children will be given a dream Christmas (06). Blaine reportedly agreed to the charity stunt to reward the organisation for helping him as a child. Previous New York City stunts have seen Blaine encased in a closet of ice and standing on a 90-feet-high (27-metre) and 22-inch-wide (56-centimetre) pillar for more than 34 hours without food, water or anything to lean on. He also lived in a transparent box suspended by London's River Thames for 44 days in 2003.
