JACK BLACK is set to upset a number of religious groups after making jokes about the Bible - insisting the sacred text was written by "an idiot."
The School of Rock actor plays a caveman who embarks on an epic trek to find the end of the Earth in upcoming film Year One - a homage to Monty Python film Life of Brian, which provoked uproar when it was released in 1979.
Black, who was raised as a Jew, is set to cause more controversy after he dismissed the stories of the Old Testament and admitted he doesn't believe the Biblical writings.
He says, "Do you believe that God came down and went 'I have to make the Earth'? And then said, 'I'm going to invent nighttime and daytime'. You don't invent nighttime, it's just the Earth turning. It was written by kind of an idiot.
"He didn't know basic stuff... As a document it definitely reads like, 'This is written by somebody, this is somebody writing some stuff'."
