BIG NAMES UP FOR SAG AWARD

George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis and Viggo Mortensen have been nominated in the best actor category for the Screen Actor Guild awards.

They will also compete against Into the Wild's Emile Hirsch and Ryan Gosling of Lars and the Real Girl.

Sean Penn-directed Into the Wild is nominated for three other awards, including best ensemble cast and supporting actor nominations for Hal Halbrook and Catherine Keener.

Clooney's Michael Clayton has also received nods for his co-stars Tom Wilkinson and Tilda Swinton, while ensemble cast nominations have been given to Into the Wild, No Country for Old Men, Hairspray, American Gangster and 3:10 to Yuma.

Cate Blanchett has been put forward for the best actress gong for Elizabeth: The Golden Age, alongside La Vie En Rose's Marion Cottilard, Ellen Page for Juno and Angelina Jolie in A Mighty Heart.

But there is no place on the list for Atonement, starring Keira Knightley, which led the race for the Golden Globes with seven nominations.

The awards, due to be handed out in Los Angeles on January 27th, are a good indication of the contenders for February's Academy Awards, as actors have the largest say in who the Oscars will be going to.
