BESTIVAL AWASH ON OPENING DAY

Bestival, the last major festival of the summer, could also end up being the wettest after heavy rain hit the Isle of Wight.

More than 30,000 festivalgoers awoke to high winds and torrential rain at Robin Hill Country Park.

"The weather is abysmal," inthenews.co.uk's Lewis Bazley said. "It's muddy underfoot and tents are clinging to the ground.

"This year's Bestival is on course to become the wettest festival of 2008."

The Met Office has forecast heavy rain across most of the UK today, but the picture should improve over the weekend.

Bands on today's programme include Foals, CSS and My Bloody Valentine.
