BESSON TRAINED AS MOVIE SET NIGHTWATCHMAN

French moviemaker LUC BESSON taught himself how to be a great director by playing with the cameras set up on film sets he used to guard. The celebrated auteur, whose first job in film was as an assistant on JAMES BOND film MOONRAKER, admits he would volunteer to sleep on location film sets to protect equipment, and then spend the night trying to figure out everything about cameras. He explains, "When I was a third assistant on sets... and they never knew how to keep apartment locations safe, I was always the one who volunteered to stay in the apartment during the night. "I'd open all the cameras and take the lenses out so I learned a lot about cameras that way. That's how I started in film."
