BERNSTEIN WANTS TO CLOSE SHEA STADIUM... AGAIN

Former BEATLES promoter SID BERNSTEIN wants to hold one more performance at New York's doomed Shea Stadium, after he was snubbed for BILLY JOEL's final concerts there last week (beg14Jul08).
Bernstein is credited with spawning the British Invasion in the 1960s by taking the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to America, and he organised the Fab Four's famous performance at Shea in 1965 - the stadium's first concert.
Now aged 90, Bernstein is furious he wasn't invited to Billy Joel's two gigs at Shea last week (16Jul+18Jul08), the final concerts scheduled for the arena before it is demolished.
And he wants to squeeze in an extra event at the baseball park, featuring a Beatles tribute act.
Bernstein tells the New York Daily News, "Can I tell you how upset I am that I wasn't invited?"
And he lets slip his plans, "I'm working with the group Rain, the Beatles tribute band, and I'm talking with the guys who brought the Pope to Yankee Stadium about a show. Maybe we'll have it at Shea."
The stadium, home to the New York Mets, will be replaced by a new state of the art venue next year (09).
