BERLIN FILM FEST TO SPOTLIGHT 70MM CLASSICS

The Berlin Film Festival -- the Berlinale -- is planning to screen some 22 restored movies that were originally shot on 65mm or 70mm negative film during its Retrospective sidebar in February. The films include Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, Patton, 2001 A Space Odyssey, West Side Story, The Sound of Music and Hello, Dolly! Several 70mm films produced in what was then the Soviet Union will also be screened, including the seven-hour epic War and Peace by director Sergei Bondarchuk. The prints will be screened at the Kino International, one of the few theaters in the world still equipped with 70mm projectors.  "It will be a feast for the eyes," Berlinale director Dieter Kosslick said in a statement. "I'm delighted we'll be able to provide Berlinale audiences with such a spectacular cinema event."
