BERKOFF SEARCHES UK FOR NEW BRANDO
British film director STEVEN BERKOFF is set to bring 1954 MARLON BRANDO movie ON THE WATERFRONT to the London stage - and launch a nationwide search for the lead role. After watching SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER use a reality TV show to audition actresses to play MARIA for his new stage version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Berkoff wants to use the same method to find a new TERRY MALLOY - the role Brando made famous - for London's West End. Berkoff says, "I've been in New York meeting with BUDD (SCHULBERG - On The Waterfront author) about it and we're hoping it will happen. I'm keen to have a crack at directing it myself, but I'm not sure who should play Terry Malloy. "Perhaps I should hold a nationwide search for him like Andrew Lloyd Webber has done."
