BENICASSIM TO GET UNDERWAY

Benicassim festival will get underway tonight as four days of live music in the Spanish sunshine begins.

Iggy and the Stooges lead tonight's headliners along with fellow US act Bright Eyes and Swedish band Mando Diao.

The Stooges recently headlined the Other stage at Glastonbury festival and will be playing the Spanish event for the first time after a 33-year hiatus from the music business.

Friday's acts get underway in the late afternoon, with Rufus Wainwright and Antony and the Johnsons among the first to hit the stage.

Klaxons will headline the Escenario Verde during the evening before US band the Rapture take to the stage.

Saturday sees Arctic Monkeys, Jamie T and the Magic Numbers lead the way for the British contingent, while Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr will also be performing his solo album.

Sunday will close the festival with a bang as Muse and Kings of Leon headline, while Patrick Wolf and the Hives are also set to play.

Amy Winehouse, who recently cancelled a number of gigs, is also scheduled to perform at the Escenario Fiberfib.
