BEAUTY QUEEN APOLOGISES FOR INSULTING MUMBA

A Scottish beauty queen has apologised after calling Irish singer/actress SAMANTHA MUMBA a "monkey", insisting the insult was not meant to be racist. Miss Scotland NICOLA MCLEAN made the insult on Radio Clyde 1's breakfast show on Friday (09MAR07), which many critics have condoned as racism. MCLean was asked if she thought Irish-Zambian star was attractive, to which she replied, "I think she looks like a monkey." In a statement, MCLean says, "I was trying to be funny and I meant absolutely no harm, nor did I intend to offend anyone by this comment. "I am not a racist and I do not condone racist behaviour of any kind and wish to apologise to Samantha Mumba and the Radio Clyde listeners personally."
