BEATLES FANS CAMPAIGN FOR STARR KNIGHTHOOD

Fans of RINGO STARR have launched an internet campaign calling for the former BEATLES drummer to receive a knighthood. An e-petition containing 1,500 names has been sent to the 10 Downing Street website of British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR, who recommends recipients of the prestigious honour to British monarch QUEEN ELIZABETH II. Fans are shocked Starr is yet to receive the royal accolade, because his former BEATLES bandmate SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY was knighted in 1996 and Blair's wife CHERIE has admitted to being a fan of the band. A source tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "Downing Street has been surprised by the strong feeling this issue has aroused since Ringo was left off the New Year's Honours list (07). It's proving one of the most popular petitions on the website. "Considering Cherie is such a well-known Beatles fan, campaigners are hoping Tony will finally give it his approval."

I only wish as a US resident, I could sign the petition as well. I believe just for the simple fact he was part of the most phenomenal band of all time, and he is a talented musician in his own rite, that he is deserving of knighthood.

Although he did not write the songs made famous i think Ringo deserves a knighthood. He was a major part of the band and he contributed as much as they all did. I think personally John Lennon should have been recognised by the Queen too! Some award that honours his contribution to peace, love, the music that shaped the world and The Beatles, that is given to a person who has passed. Lets hope Tony will give the thumbs up for Ringo.
