BBC PROMISES REVIEW AFTER DRAMA ON STRICTLY DANCEFLOOR
The BBC will move to revamp the scoring system used for Strictly Come Dancing after a voting tie in the semi-final drew viewer complaints.
In a surprise twist, Lisa Snowdon, Rachel Stevens and Tom Chambers all progressed to the final show after producers decided to put everyone through when the first two were left tied after the judges' scoring.
That meant that whatever happened in the audience vote, Chambers and his dancing partner would have had to face the dance-off and that was deemed to be "unfair" by the show's producers.
Viewers' votes will be included in the final show next Saturday, the BBC has stressed, after more than 100 complaints were received over the incident.
"[The producers) are going to look at ways in which they can avoid this situation happening again, definitely," a spokesman said.
"Exactly what's going to happen is yet to be debated and agreed, but that process will begin soon."
While viewers of the dance show were able to claim refunds after John Sergeant left the show last month, they will be unable to claim their money back this time round.
"Viewers were asked to vote for their favourite dancer and they will all be going through," the spokesman explained.
"Nobody's vote has been disregarded, in fact, quite the opposite."
Snowdon and her partner Brendan Cole, and Stevens and partner Vincent Simone each earned 75 marks from a possible 80 after the ballroom dance, meaning each couple earned three points ahead of the audience vote.
Chambers and his partner Camilla Dallerup only earned one, meaning that even if the Holby City actor had one the audience vote, he would have been unable to avoid a place in the dance-off.
The progression of three couples to the final does, however, mean a reversion to the BBC's original plans for the Saturday entertainment show.
Three couples were due to appear in the final until the exit of people's favourite John Sergeant - who left the programme due to the "real danger" that he could win - led producers to opt for a two-couple final.
