BBC IS BIG WINNER AS TENNANT LEAVES THE TARDIS AT NTAS
The BBC was the major winner at the National Television Awards (NTAs) as the search began for a new Doctor Who.
David Tennant took the outstanding dramatic performance award and announced his intention to leave the BBC1 series after filming four specials next year.
Doctor Who also claimed the most popular drama award while there was double success for EastEnders, which triumphed in the most popular serial drama category and saw Rita Simons claim the most popular newcomer prize.
And there was success for Strictly Come Dancing, which emerged victorious in the most popular talent show category, despite the challenge of The X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and Dancing on Ice.
X Factor and Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell had some cause for celebration, however, as he claimed the special recognition prize while ITV also saw success in the most popular comedy and most popular entertainment presenter categories (for Benidorm and Ant and Dec, respectively)
