BASSEY FUMES AT BIRTHDAY SINGING CLAIMS
DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY is incensed by claims she performed at her 70th birthday part - insisting she only sings "at her shows." The Welsh star's birthday celebrations took place last Sunday (16Dec07) at a lavish $1 million (GBP500,000) ceremony, with guests including Sir Elton John, Madonna, Elle MCPherson, Kevin Spacey and George Michael. Bassey was rumoured to have performed an impromptu gig at the party, but the singer insists she never plays at private functions. She says, "The papers said that I sang my hits at the party but it's not true. If that gets out, then people will think I'll sing every time they invite me to a party. I sing only when I do my shows." Bassey did, however, sing a rendition of Happy Birthday To Me in the style of Marilyn Monroe at the bash.
