BASINGER: 'I'M PROTECTING MY DAUGHTER FROM MEDIA'

LATEST: KIM BASINGER has confirmed reports she hired a security guard to protect her daughter from the media following her ex-husband Alec Baldwin's recent phone tirade against the youngster. The Oscar-winning actress stepped up security around her Los Angeles home after Baldwin called 11-year-old daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless little pig" during a recorded telephone conversation. The actor has been criticised by film fans after the conversation was leaked on the internet. He has apologised publicly and in private to his daughter. A spokeswoman for Basinger denies the actress released the voicemail recording to the media, but confirmed the star had stepped up security. She says, "Kim did hire security in response to the media attention on her daughter in order to allow Ireland to maintain her regular routine and activities uninterrupted." The spokeswoman adds Basinger hopes Baldwin would "finally address his unstable and irrational behaviour so he, at some point, can potentially create a relationship with his daughter."
