BARROWMAN FORCED TO REVEAL SEXUALITY AFTER AIDS SCARE

Actor JOHN BARROWMAN was forced to tell his parents he was gay following a serious health scare - which left the star terrified he had contracted HIV. The Torchwood star was performing in the London production of The Phantom Of The Opera in 1992 when he was struck down with a mystery illness. The 40-year-old was so terrified he'd fallen victim to HIV, he boarded a plane to the U.S. to confront his family about his sexuality. Barrowman says, "I was ill and had a low grade fever and stomach cramps. I'd been sexually active and I feared the worst. "I flew home to see my family. My parents and I sat at the table and I said: "I'm gay and I need an HIV test. They admitted it hadn't been a revelation. "Ultimately the test came back negative, it seemed my family knew I was gay, so much for my bombshell news."
