BARRETT'S AUCTION PROFITS GO TO ARTISTS

Contents from the late PINK FLOYD founder SYD BARRETT's house will be auctioned off, with the money raised going to up-and-coming artists. The reclusive musician, who died in July (06), spent most of his latter years perfecting his art work at his Cambridge, England home. Barrett was said to have preferred painting than wowing fans with his music. Money from the lots, which include a still-life painting, his bicycles, homemade stereo speakers and guitars will be used to fund art training in Cambridge. Barrett's sister ROSEMARY BREEN says, "His first love was art and he always considered himself more than an artist than a musician. We hope to use the money to set up some kind of bursary in the town for budding art students."

Great that there will a Syd Barrett Trust. If he hadn't been primarily an artist we probably would not have had Pink Floyd.
