BARLOW BEATS LENNON TO TOP SONGWRITERS' POLL

TAKE THAT frontman GARY BARLOW has topped a poll of the greatest British songwriters of all time - beating out competition from BEATLES legend JOHN LENNON. The British singer penned many hit tracks for the hugely successful boyband throughout their 1990s heyday - including Pray and Back For Good, and has picked up five prestigious Ivor Novello Awards.
Barlow was also at the helm of the group's phenomenal comeback in 2005, as well as writing songs for Charlotte Church, Atomic Kitten, Blue and Donny Osmond.
The 38-year-old came atop the onepoll.com list of the U.K.'s most beloved lyricists, even managing to beat Beatles songwriters John Lennon and Sir Paul MCCartney, who came second and third respectively
Other acts to make the top ten include Coldplay rocker Chris Martin, George Michael and Barlow's former bandmate Robbie Williams.
A spokesperson for onepoll.com says, “Gary has been responsible for some of the biggest hits of the past decade.”
The full list is as follows:
1: Gary Barlow
2: John Lennon
3: Paul MCCartney
4: Chris Martin
5: George Michael
6: Bee Gees
7: Noel Gallagher
8: Robbie Williams
9: Sting
10: Kate Bush.
