BANDERAS & GRIFFITH CELEBRATED LOW-KEY BIRTHDAYS

ANTONIO BANDERAS and his wife MELANIE GRIFFITH had low-key birthday celebrations this summer (09) - because the actress was just about to check into rehab.
The Working Girl star signed up for counselling at the Cirque Lodge in Utah last month (Aug09) in a last-ditch effort to kick her longtime addiction to painkillers, and felt it best not to stage a big party before her month away.
And her devoted husband, who celebrated his 49th birthday a day after Griffith turned 52 on 9 August (09), chose to follow suit.
The Spanish actor says, "Because of the crisis, we just keep it very low. We just gave flowers to each other."
Banderas admits the fact that he and Griffith share a birthday a day apart has been a blessing: "It's very economical actually because we just change the party from nine (ninth) to 10 (tenth)."
