BAILEY RAE'S DRUGS CAMPAIGN

British soul star CORINNE BAILEY RAE signed up as the face of anti-drugs campaign just months before her husband died of a suspected overdose. The body of saxophonist Jason Rae, 31, was discovered in a flat in Leeds, England on Saturday (22Mar08). And Bailey Rae, 29, was fronting West Yorkshire Police's 3 Minute Wonders songwriting contest - aimed at tackling drug problems - at the time of his death. Youngsters under the age of 19 were invited to submit songs about the fight against illegal substances and the singer is due to pick the winner in May (08). At the recent launch of the competition Bailey Rae said, "Helping raise awareness amongst teenagers about the danger of drugs is vital. The impact of drugs in our communities cannot be underestimated." A post-mortem examination carried out on Rae's body on Saturday night proved inconclusive and officials are now awaiting the results of a toxicology report. An inquest into Rae's death is expected to be opened later this week (beg24Mar08). Bailey Rae met her husband while working as a cloakroom attendant at a Leeds jazz club. They married in 2001.
