BACHCHAN THREATENS TO DITCH AUSSIE DEGREE

Bollywood idol AMITABH BACHCHAN is set to snub his honorary doctorate from an Australian university after a string of attacks on Indian students in the country.
The acting legend was due to accept a degree from the Brisbane University in July (09) for his contribution to the entertainment industry.
But Bachchan has threatened to boycott his honorary graduation, accusing the Australian government of failing to act after a wave of violence against Indians in Melbourne.
He writes on his blog, "My conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen.
"I shall put this up as my poll question and shall feel obliged if (my) extended family (of fans) can indicate to me their opinion for me to be able to take the correct action."
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has spoken out at his concern over the attacks, ensuring the Indian government that "the overwhelming majority of Indian students were safe" in the country.
