THE SMITHS - ATTENBOROUGH WINS ICON AWARD

NEWS BY ARTIST ALPHABETICALLY

ATTENBOROUGH WINS ICON AWARD

SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH was named Britain's Greatest Living Icon yesterday (16DEC06) after viewers voted for the British naturalist on the BBC's THE CULTURE SHOW. The veteran broadcaster beat former THE SMITHS frontman MORRISSEY and former BEATLE SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY to the honour. The three were whittled down from a shortlist of ten, which included DAVID BOWIE and SIR MICHAEL CAINE. Attenborough, the brother of Oscar-winning director SIR RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH, is best known for his wildlife shows LIFE ON EARTH, and is "flattered and amazed" by the win.

Morrissey has my vote as he has the most amazing insight into life, he like Attenborough is unpretentious and profound and deserves the title.

Who is this Attenborough person? I'm a Yank and voted for Paul McCartney, since I was invited to vote. I would have voted for David Bowie, but he wasn't in the top 3. We Yanks have no idea who this Attenborough person is. Congrats to him none-the-less. He seems like a GREEN person, and I'm all for that! Peace on Earth everyone in this holiday season. Pray for our soldiers fighting this useless war.
