ARMSTRONG CHARITY PARTY RAISES $1 MILLION

SHERYL CROW's ex-fiance, cycling star LANCE ARMSTRONG, celebrated the 10th anniversary of his charity The Lance Armstrong Foundation on Friday (27Apr07) with a fundraising barbecue at his Austin, Texas home. Cancer survivor Armstrong, who split with Crow at the beginning of 2006, was joined by friends including Lyle Lovett and actor Matthew MCConaughey at the event, which raised around $1 million (GBP500,000) for the charity. The sportsman joined Lovett, who performed at the party, onstage for two songs. Armstrong told the crowd, "I hated losing and I hated rivals. And I despise, detest and hate cancer. This foundation is going to continue to be ruthless and relentless in this fight against cancer." He later added, "It all went really well. It was fun to have so many people over to the house. I'm not worried about anything spilling on a pillow or sofa, because you can clean up almost anything. It was a great evening." The Lance Armstrong Foundation was founded in 1997 and raises money for cancer research and treatment.
