ARMSTRONG AND PEARL JAM HELP U2 CLOSE TOUR

GREEN DAY frontman BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG and PEARL JAM joined forces with U2 to help the Irish supergroup close their Vertigo world tour in Hawaii on Saturday night (09DEC06). The band kicked off their Vertigo tour in San Diego, California on 28 March 2005, but announced in March this year (06) they were postponing the final leg of the tour due to serious illness of one of the band's family members. The press had speculated the postponement was due to the illness of the band's guitarist THE EDGE's daughter SIAN. During the band's closing set at Honolulu's Aloha Stadium, frontman BONO paid tribute to The Edge, real name DAVID HOWELL EVANS, for "his grace under pressure, faith and perseverance". Armstrong stunned fans when he took to the stage to perform charity single THE SAINTS ARE COMING, while Pearl Jam's frontman EDDIE VEDDER and MIKE MCCREADY joined U2 to sing ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD. MIRA SORVINO, ALYSSA MILANO and JEREMY PIVEN were amongst the celebrities in the audience.
