ARCTIC MONKEYS SLAM 'CHEAPENED' IVOR NOVELLOS

British rockers the ARCTIC MONKEYS have criticised the bosses of the U.K.'s prestigious Ivor Novello awards for handing a trophy to pop duo THE TING TINGS - because the move "cheapened" the coveted prize.
The I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor hitmakers picked up one of the songwriting honours in 2007 for their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
But drummer Matt Helders admits that since The Ting Tings won the same award at this year's (09) ceremony, they have had less respect for the awards.
He explains,"The Ivor Novello awards used to feel like the most meaningful ones but I think they've been cheapened.
"I don't want to be horrible to The Ting Tings, but they won it and it's supposed to be for songwriting.
"There's a lot better songwriting ability out there."
