ARCTIC MONKEYS REVEAL 'RICKY MARTIN INSPIRATION'

Arctic Monkeys have given some bizarre hints at the kind of music which influenced their new album, Favourite Worst Nightmare.

Speaking to the radio station Xfm, frontman Alex turner said that the band "listened to all sorts" while recording their follow-up to Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

"Ricky Martin and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Pure Imagination, that's a tune," Turner said. "Listened to that a few times."

As well as their liking of American pop, the Monkeys took a tongue-in-cheek approach at summarising their choice of clothing.

Bassist Nick O'Malley said: "If you're going to try and create a good atmosphere, why not wear some MC Hammer parachute trousers? Comfort first of course, with a bonus aesthetic."

The band's new album is released on Monday (April 23rd) and Brianstorm, the first single to be lifted from it, will chart this weekend.

Turner and O'Malley also gave the radio station a rundown of their new album saying that final track 505 was the first "straightforward love song" they had ever written.
