ANNE ROBINSON ENDS 27-YEAR MARRIAGE

TV presenter Anne Robinson and her husband John Penrose are to divorce after 27 years of marriage.

The Weakest Link presenter and Penrose - who had acted as her agent - are to split on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

A spokesman for the couple stated that they would part on friendly terms, adding: "There is no-one else involved."

He continued: "There is no acrimony and Anne and John have reached on amicable settlement on all financial issues."

Mr Penrose - now a property developer in the Cotswolds - had met Robinson in 1980, while working at a news agency in north London.

They married in 1980, seven years after the dissolution of Robinson's first marriage to newspaper editor Charlie Wilson, father to her daughter Emma, also a TV presenter.

After a long battle with alcoholism, Robinson was appointed assistant editor of the Daily Mail, with her famously cruel sense of humour later earning her transatlantic success as host of the Weakest Link.

Her caustic (and scripted) put-downs won her a hosting job on the US version of the quiz show, while the simplistic format was sold globally.

Robinson, 63, said of Penrose: "We have been an enormously important part of each other's lives for a very long time and our friendship will carry on forever."
