ANIL KAPOOR: WE ARE HUMBLED BY SLUMDOG SUCCESS

Slumdog Millionaire star Anil Kapoor says the cast and crew of the Oscar favourite are stunned by the success of the film.

The Mumbai-set drama won seven awards at last weekend's Bafta ceremony as well as claiming four Golden Globes last month.

But speaking after the Danny Boyle movie took best film at the Baftas in London, Bollywood legend Kapoor said everyone involved in the Pathe picture has been surprised by its critical and commercial reception.

"To be honest, wherever we've gone with any of the awards, we've gone not expecting anything," he told inthenews.co.uk.

"We're so overawed with what we've got and God has always been kind to us. It's been wonderful."

Kapoor, a veteran of more than 50 Bollywood films, plays the host of the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, on which the movie's hero Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) finds himself one question away from winning 20 million rupees.

The film is nominated for ten Academy awards and having been honoured at the Baftas, Golden Globe and the major Hollywood Guild ceremonies, is a favourite to claim the best picture Oscar later this month.

However, Kapoor stressed that the Slumdog Millionaire team are "not feeling confident" for the ceremony and remain "completely humbled by the love people have for the film and the awards we've got already".

"We've always been the underdogs," he told inthenews.co.uK.

"None of us really feel confident, we are just very grateful to all the fans and to at least be nominated."
