ANGER WARNED FAITHFULL OF SMOKING RISK

Filmmaker KENNETH ANGER is not surprised MARIANNE FAITHFULL has contracted cancer, because she refused to heed his advice and give up smoking before it was too late. Anger directed Faithfull, who was diagnosed with breast cancer last month (SEP06), in his 1972 film LUCIFER RISING, but hasn't always got on with the 1960s icon because he is too honest with her. He says, "I have a rocky relationship with her because every now and then I tell her the truth. Now she's been diagnosed with breast cancer. "Well good luck, Marianne. But the only reason I bring this up is that for years I was pestering her about being a chain smoker of cigarettes. And I said, 'You'll pay for this.'"
