ANG LEE IN LINE FOR LIFE OF PI ADAPTATION
Oscar-winning director Ang Lee is in discussions to direct an adaptation of Yann Martel's acclaimed novel Life of Pi.
The Booker-winning tome tells of an Indian boy who spends 227 days on a lifeboat in the Pacific Ocean accompanied by a tiger, a hyena a zebra and an injured orangutan after a shipwreck.
Directors M Night Shyamalan, Alfonso Cuaron and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have all been linked to a film of the book, which sparked a bidding war among publishers when it was revealed in 2001.
But Brokeback Mountain helmer Lee seems the closest to bringing the novel to the screen, and is in talks with Fox 2000, according to Variety.
Gill Netter will produce while Lee is to supervise a new script, with a screenwriter to be hired shortly.
