ANDREWS CAREER ENDED BY BOTCHED SURGERY

DAME JULIE ANDREWS was left devastated after a botched minor throat surgery put an end to her music career. The SOUND OF MUSIC star's four-octave voice helped make her a superstar - until the fateful procedure in 1997. She explains, "I was in denial, thinking I was going to get better. There was anger at myself for going under the knife." The 71-year-old star's singing ability never returned, so she was forced to find other creative outlets, including acting and writing children's books. She says, "I never have been busier. It's wonderful." In 2004 Andrews talk-sang through a ditty in PRINCESS DIARIES 2, her first performance since the surgery, bringing the film's cast and crew to tears. She recalls, "For me, (it was) wonderful affirmation."
