ANDRE 3000 SUED OVER TV SERIES

OUTKAST star ANDRE 3000 is facing a $2 million (GBP1.37 million) lawsuit from an art student accusing the rapper of stealing his idea for hit animated series CLASS OF 3000.
Timothy MCGee has filed papers in Boston, Massachusetts claiming in 1997 he submitted an idea to then Cartoon Network vice president of programming, Michael Lazzo, about a show following the lives of a group of young musicians "as they try to break into Atlanta's burgeoning music scene".
And MCGee insists that the Emmy-winning Class of 3000, which Andre 3000 executive produced and starred in, is based on his original "characters, artwork, storylines and concepts".
MCGee has named Andre 3000 - real name André Lauren Benjamin - in the suit as well as broadcaster Cartoon Network and parent company Turner Broadcasting.
He is asking for $2 million (GBP1.37 million) in damages, citing copyright infringement, breach of contract and misappropriation of trade secrets in the creation of the award-winning show.
MCGee is also seeking his court costs and compensation in the form of all the profits from the series, according to AllHipHop.com.
Class of 3000 landed the 2007 Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation, but was cancelled in December that year (07) due to budgetary constraints.
